I pour out my soul to you
NAKED,

No Flesh,

No skin

No Bones.

This prototype heaven
just aint my home

They had stick with rocks in
them. They beat me and dragged the skin off of
my back.

I did not move nor did I try to counter attack

I carried my cross.

They pierced my hands and feet while they gave me vinegar and red wine
to help with the pain.

I refused to drink it.

Then they put something that felt like acid upon my wounds

This pain was so unbearable that I prayed and hid inside of
my Biblical Cocoon.

The people were yelling kill him, kill him.

I could see Satan roamed around as a snake charmer

He wanted my soul to dance to his demonic tune.

I refused.

The people yelled, "Let your blood be on our children's head"

They poked me sticks and through stones at me as I bled.

The people didn't know that my blood contains healing powers.

I continue to pray as I reach my final hour.

This was it, I gave up my spirit and the sun was covered it was

completely dark.

I could have called on the angels and these people would have been through.

Instead I yelled out

“There is an art to wasting time”

We’ve all been there before. We bolt out of the door, hop into our car and break several traffic laws to make sure that we are not late to where we are going. When you get there you notice that you are 15 or 30 minutes early.
You can’t forget this classic. For the first time in months you are on time to your appointment, event or meeting and everyone else is late.
So, what do you do? Most of the time we sit there fuming about the mix-up or try to look patient about the whole thing.
Many times in my day I hear people talking about there is not enough time in the day for them to complete everything there is for them to do. Do we expect to finish every task on our “To Do List” or concentrate on the needful things? Are you sure it’s not enough time in the day?
Check this out. In my journey I have learned I have more extra time on my hands than I thought I did. Yes, shocking isn’t it. Was I wasting time? YES! Does this mean that I am lazy and non-productive. NO. I just needed to learn how to properly waste time.
There is a simple thing I have learned and it has helped me a great deal. I took a week to log everything that happened in my day. To my surprise, I learned that I have a lot of wasted time (unscheduled free time) on my hands.

“Becoming the “Master Of Wasted Time”.

Another way of looking at it is “Mastering Unscheduled Free Time”.
In the last article I wrote about how I started meditating and scheduling “Me Time.” I now have a different outlook on non-scheduled free time. All of which is helping me to become simplified, relaxed and more productive in life situations. I know you are laughing and screaming at the monitor right now; “LOL, he used the words relaxed and productive in the same paragraph.”
Yes, I did. It feels wonderful taking a moment to build my day and having it turn out just the way I had planned it.
Let’s do this.
Take a minute to reflect on yesterday. Go ahead. I will wait.
OK. Now that you have thought for a moment, you will see there was some time wasted or unscheduled free time within your day. There was time on your commute to and from work. Also, you probably noticed that there was unscheduled free time in line at the bank, between appointments or waiting for a meeting.
I have learned to make these moments very useful to me. During my commute, I listen to Podcasts and CDs that will help me to succeed in my career. I listen to music I have created or that different Producers have sent for me to write lyrics to. While I’m in any type of line or waiting on a meeting, I read a chapter in my book, make a phone call, respond to emails, send out “quality” tweets and send text messages I need to. As a matter of fact, I am writing this while I am waiting on my lunch to arrive at my table. There are many opportunities to master this wasted time.
It has taken me a little time to grasp the concept of doing things this way, but it is becoming an ebb and flow to me. It is second nature now. It isn’t a burden or a chore once something becomes second nature to you; like breathing and walking. It’s Freeing.
This small change in my perception has made things simple for me. I am now “The Master Of Unscheduled Free Time” and it has afforded me more family time, me time and a vastly improved work ethic.

I get to see his alter ego
The side that is hidden from the world
They see him and yell out

“Gangster, Drug Dealer, Thug”

They don’t see the apron.

They didn’t catch him washing dishes.

Fixing dinner on the days I had to go to work and school.

His exterior:

Hard as ever. Cool, Fearless, Disrespectful - Never.

People talk to him but sometimes dislike the answer.

He listens intently.

Watching, examining their every movement.

The shift of the other person’s eyes. The way they glance to the right

Never looking him directly into his eyes.

Then he walks away.

He stands his ground, while others argue

He doesn’t say a word;

Quietly, he organizes his thoughts.

I get to see the alter ego.

The side he’s hidden from the world.

He comes into the house and asks me how my day is going.

I tell him about my job (he listens intently)

He allows me to take a nap (work and school that day)

While I’m sleeping He has finished the laundry.

An hour has gone by: and I awaken feeling refreshed.

I jump up thinking that I’ve allowed the food to burn.

He doesn’t say a word.

He blindfolds my eyes and leads me into the kitchen.

I stand there in awe, surprised that the table is set with candles.

His Interior:

I get to see the his alter ego

The side that he’s has hidden from the world.

The tears,

The pain

The depression of working at a job that where his ideas are ignored.

The frustration of starting his own business is evident...

He wants to generate income within our community.

He reveals his heart and mind to me.

He expresses the pain about his past.

The fact that his parents gave him away at an early age.

I don’t judge. I just listen and cry with him.

He knows when all seems to fall apart;

I am standing there with a plate full of

Uplifting prayer and poetry.

He’s not a Gangster, Drug Dealer, or Thug.

He’s a spiritual man.

With Computer skills that are in high demand.

The Art Of Letting Go

I came to a shocking realization today of the uneasy feeling of letting go. As I was growing up I was taught some things have to be let go of and people move on but the actual living in the reality of this teaching comes years down the road.

Have you ever notice small children and how they handle this same situation? A child will quickly ditch their old, favorite toy for a shiny new one. You can give them stern correction and 15 minutes later they want to love on you and cling to your every move. As we grow older, when do we loose this ability? We are off somewhere living our lives and our loves just the way we planned it. We are settled into our perfect lifestyles when we experience that gut wrenching fact of things are temperal.

The very thing you love such as smaller fitting clothes, the car you drove in high school, your first love, your children moving out or even your job is fleeting. Unlike a child that easily let go of the old things to get the reward of the “Brand New” thing; in the mist of the whirl wind, we mistakenly associate letting go with loosing or giving up. Our world has taught us doing so puts us in a certain category or class in our society. Yeah, I know. We put labels on everything.

Because we are taught that letting go is so bad, we fight against the unknown and every great possibility to be had and opt to make our lives and the lives of others a living hell. We humans are masters of doing this. Look at nature for a moment. It is autumn right now. Everything around us is changing. The clothes that we are wearing, our social activities and the landscape itself are changing. Flowers are “dying”, grass is turning brown or a dull green, the leaves are turning color and falling off trees. This delicate balance has been going on since the dawn of time yet nature is not fighting against it’s self. Somehow it knows the situation is not permanent.

What is it that we fighting so hard to keep? Is it worth the fight? Is it useful to our lives? Do we identify ourselves with it or the situation? Has this thing or situation become us?

I have noticed that in my journey into simplicity that I am going through a shift. Things that I thought was only “about me” were affecting everything and everyone around me. The Quality of my life situations are becoming better yet the ego is tempting me to fight this shift and the ones around me can feel it as well.

I must admit that even a shift in my business life has occurred. My eyes have been opened to the insanity of doing the same thing over and over is producing the same result and not the desired result. To have the desired outcome means I must do something different and let go of the old.

Does this make me a looser or a quitter? No. I am going freely, consciously and wide eyed into the unknown and infinite possibilities to receive my desires. Miraculous things take place and I am in a new paradigm regardless of how the world may see it or what they think. Just like the flower that was said to be “dying” in autumn, I spring up and blossomed in a new day.

The 32 year old musician from Germany started in 2004 as an complete Autodidact. Since then, she learned the Piano and began to study composition on her own.

In 2008 "DioRi" or better known as "Dimensions of Reality" was born, her second Studio - Project, which stands for epic and experimental Soundtracks.

2009 is a year of changes! Always interested and driven by the idea to work with other artists, she started collaborations with the amazing artists "Michael David Sherwood" from Albuquerque and "Immundus" from Trontheim.

You may Freestyle, but your style is not FREE. Let's keep it real. We all need to make a living to maintain our chosen lifestyle. Decide right now if you are in this for the short run or if you are building your career. When you are reaching out to people and book gigs, what are you focused on? What is your vision and plan of action? Lets face it. Some Event Planners and Promoters are not willing to pay upfront for an artist, speaker, or whomever unless they are in your network. Or you are a household name where droves of people will pay to see you live.

It took some bumps and stumbles for me to learn the true concept of pay. Sure, you can go for the cash but what if the venue is screaming about the economy and is now shy about dishing out the funds? True wealth and affluence goes beyond cash. Yes, money makes to world go round yet what are you willing to sacrifice or invest in yourself to get to where you want to be? SACRIFICE?! INVEST?! Man, you're trippin'.

It is well known that riches are good but becoming affluent and wealthy is a quality of life worth having.

Here is what I mean. You are there for your fans, right? That is what you said when you made up your mind to make this your career. OK. Good. The Million dollar question is this. Are you building your following and perfecting your NETWORK? Yeah, your network. Do you bail out at the end of your set or do you hang around to engage the people that may or may not have come out to see you? Oh, you are to good for that kind of amateur stuff. You pocketed your lil pay, left with your crew to go "Ball Out" and spend the money you just made? I see. Well tell me this. How big is your "List" growing? Keep in mind; this is a business. Do you or someone in your crew pass out your information during the event or collect any contact information of your fans? How will you communicate with them? Lists are a very powerful tool. This means your web presence should be on point. As your list grows with people willing to come see you, it is wise to send them updates, emails, special give - a - ways and all the 'goings-on' of your Brand.

Encounter+Engage+Evolve

You have just positioned yourself as the expert of your field. This is a seamless way to inform them of new artwork, blog posts, pictures, poetry or songs that you have worked so hard creating. Engage. Build a relationship with your fans and followers. It creates an intimate experience they cannot get anywhere else. Keep in mind your fans are the buying public. "They pay us." I have discovered several platforms to do this. Be open minded, converse with them and answer questions honestly. You do not have to go wild and stay online 24/7 but, you do have a craft you must perfect. You have plenty of work building your Brand. What I have found useful is to get in there and learn the ebb and flow of your followers. Once you have a feel of it , you can schedule a day and time for you to log on and engage your fans. They will love it.

So many times I have read posts from people ranting about how they Facebooked or Tweeted their favorite artist only for it to be ignored. Upon going through this, the fan gets pissed and unfollow the author, artist etc. This is something that you cannot afford. Be wise, keep it simple and be yourself. ENCOUNTER - ENGAGE - EVOLVE.

Excuses Are So Last Year!

Man, I Almost Walked Off Stage

You had the photo shoot. Your new song, mix tape or spoken word CD is on every website known to man and then some. The show is booked and promoted. You have been spending months and weeks rehearsing your act and Tweeted/Facebooked about it for the past several months. NOW IT'S SHOWTIME!

Your swag is on, your crew is in tow and your 'merch' is strategically placed out front in the lobby area. You and your crew are backstage getting focused while reports are coming in about haw many people have showed up so far. The manager of the venue comes in and hands over your pay. Life is good.Thirty minutes later, you are whisked away to stage side as the host calls your name. You explode on stage with all types of hype energy. The people on the front row explodes with you as well as you give the old "I'm feeling you" swag. As your set goes on, you notice that the only people rocking with you are the ten to twelve people on the front row. During your set, you do some call and response with the audience to get the energy back up. You cannot help but notice some people sitting at their table laughing and drinking while a few people are dancing to themselves in the corner. The people at the bar are drinking, macking and networking. Even though you finish your set and you were paid, a sinking feeling comes over you. You say to yourself, "Those people were not here to see me. I am either the soundtrack/background music to their night or just being ignored."
This my friend is the pivotal point is every professionals life that speak, sing, or rap in front of an audience. Sure, everyone gets paid. But are you really caring if some people did not experience the content of your words? Or are you pleased with the fact that you performed to a so called 'Packed House'? Do you go back and perfect your act and get better? Or do you go online and boast that you sell out shows? No one would know but you and the ten to twelve people that indulged your every word.

Let's be very real here. Everyone attend events for their very own reason. You've gone out on the town before. If you think that all of these people came to see you and hang on your every word, get over yourself.

It is time to check your ego at the door and learn the business that you are in. Learn the ebb and flow of it and embrace it. There are people that had a stressful week and just want to unwind with no DRAMA. There are parties celebrating a birthday or some other anniversary. Some people are tweeting about the event and writing an article about this event. Of course, all establishments have their "Regulars".

If you engage your Fans and Followers, you will notice they plan "Tweet Ups" for such events as this. People will be there networking and building their business and it will always be "Ballers and Hustlers" in the mix.
Don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful thing to share your work with the world and they build that bond with you as your artistry touch their souls. That is why MJ had concert goers crying and passing out. The energy starts with you. The raw essence you give to your listening audience will be given back to you many fold. The things we see while performing will continue to go on. You can choose to be ego-driven and say "'eff it, I am just going to spit and get paid off these fools", or you can crumble like a wet paper bag backstage because no one heard your message.

Ask any artist (if they are willing to be honest), what have they done when they are performing in a packed crowd and only a hand full of people are paying attention to them? Wait and wait on the answer. No answer? OK. Even though we have all faced this before, you have to realize how sinful and beautiful this really is. These ingredients make a great night for the event goer.

Relax, get paid, perfect your craft and develop your inner balance. Present your artistry to the world, send your energy across the room, connect to the front row and INjoy the fact that you are the cause for bringing many people together. To do this is a beautiful thing. Wouldn't you agree?

We would be out in the neighborhood all day unsupervised, playing ball, hide and seek, catching bees and butterflies and even making up our own games. We didn't go about our day worrying about danger, emails, food, money or any other need. Even when we would explore and hang out in other neighborhoods we always felt safe. School Morning Drop Off - A Window To The World?!

My usual commute and school drop off starts off the same every morning. Children strapped? Check. Radio pre-sets on point? Check. Let’s roll.

As I push the Proud Family® DVD into the DVD player for the hundredth time, I turned around and stared right at the clock. “Oh no, if I don’t hurry up, we are going to be late”. When we pulled into the school drop off line almost on two wheels, I noticed that an unusual line of cars two blocks long. Without showing my anger and panic I tapped my steering wheel with my finger, squeezed out a smile and shook my head. Why?

The school only gives you a window of 10 minutes to drop your child off in the carpool lane. As we crept along, I wondered what could be the hold up. Then, I saw it. There was a car sitting at the curb creating a three car length gap between them and the car that had just pulled off. Why was this happening when every morning this routine flowed so smoothly?

The procedure goes like this. You drive up, circle around and stop at the first teacher that isn’t opening a car door for another student, the child gets out of the car and you drive away. A five minute ballet occurs. (By the way, you have to get you’re “have a good days” and “good-byes” in.)

Today, one car was responsible for a two block shut down. What could have been the problem? Who knows? Was the child in the car sick, sleepy or just being a brat? I’m just saying. I know how our “Little Angels” can turn on a dime in the mornings or evenings if the wind blows wrong. We all had the same look on our faces, but the cause of this traffic back log is really not the issue for me in this case. I recognized as we sat there how much like life this particular situation is. In the blink of an eye something so small can cause a reaction that can affect many people and their perception for the rest of the day, week, month, year or life.

How one chooses to deal with the situation depends on their beliefs, emotions, experiences, influences and past. We often hear the saying, “I do what I do, it’s my life and I am not hurting you.” WHAT?! Ok, let’s be real here. I used to feel the same way until I learned that we are all connected in some type of way to each other whether we are aware of it or not.

We are responsible for the outcome of things and how they play out in our lives. One action of a person and/or group of people in a life situation, good or bad, can cause a domino or ripple affect that spreads to the end of the universe. That can change the course of a day by bringing forth life, causing destruction or even make history.

As I came out of the loop saying my “have a good day” and “goodbye” to my son, I pulled up to the drop off curb. He bailed out of the SUV with a perfect tuck and roll with Navy Seal precision as I quickly pulled off smiling, restoring balance and flow back into the school’s drop off line. Have a great day.

You have spent months of connecting, planning and building. You have had a successful promotion campaign for your event and you have worked hard with your team getting this all together. The whip is detailed and you have your date and outfit picked out. It is time to enjoy the fruit of your labor. Everything is going well. You are welcoming a steam of well wishers then “BAM” ; out of the crowd of people surrounding you, a business card and promotional items comes out of nowhere. Your good time has just been deflated. You think, “This is a celebration, not work”. More often than wanted, this is the scene of many event nights or just a night on the town. Relax. I got you on this.
For the next few minutes we are going to share some proper business etiquette for “fired up” and ready to go Artists, Agents, Managers and Promoters that will be your power move in furthering your and/or your clients career. I am not going to wast your time with the Don't s because we already see the major what not to do in this particular situation.

Build relationships: Many stuffy business situations turn out to be great once you get to know the person or business that you are trying to connect with. One thing that turns me away from doing business with some good people is the fact that they didn't get to now me or the vision that I have for the business or project. Know the history and platform of the business and/or person, it saves time when you quickly see if your vision and theirs mesh or not.

Be a Go-Giver: How many times in your day you hear the phrase, “She/He is a real Go–Getter”? A million?! Networking is a two way street. When you are reaching out your hand to ask and receive something from someone, have something to give in return. When you are building that relationship, be in the mind state of “What can I do for you” or “ How can I help you achieve your aspirations”. Many times I have made the mistake of going into a situation thinking, "what's in it for me" and got nothing. The very moment I changed my way of thinking, things changed for me. The more I practiced the how can I help you way, I received over and above what I was expecting.

Make your contacts during business hours: ( Depending on the business that you are interested in working with) Unless it is already pre arranged for a brief meeting or introduction, an event or a night out is just that. You have to get involved and understand the months and weeks of work and preparation that goes into events and the night of is the icing on the cake. I will say that there is nothing wrong with having business cards, promotional items, etc with you at all times. It is smart for you to be ready for any Blessed invite than not. However; it is annoying when you trip all over the persons spit shinned shoe to hand them a wrinkled up flyer or business card with Henney stains all over it.
There is a proper place and time for everything. Start investing in yourself. It would be wise to join a professional organization/association, go to trade shows, workshops and conferences. Develop a committee of people in your field and start your own networking events. Get involved. These are some great places to network and build relationships.

*While we are on the subject, this goes for online networks as well. These days everyone has a Myspace, Facebook or a Twitter account. Many business people, family, etc. use these sites to catch up with loved ones, connect and build networks. It is equally rude to ambush people when they are doing their “Thang”. This is called Spam. I know how it is to want to get your song, book, website, product or service out and make a honest living doing what you love. When you sign up to these sights, learn what is going on, learn the lingo and thoughtfully follow/friend someone and engage your followers.

Whether you are a million dollar business or not, people want to converse and get to know you. That's why it is called “Social Networking”. You will be amazed at the response that you will receive and you will have built your own following and strong network.

Do what you love and enjoy it. I and the world would love to experience and share your passion. We also want you ideas to develop and see the light of day. READ, LEARN, STUDY AND MASTER YOUR INDUSTRY. INjoy a night out, let your hair down and mingle - but stay off those shoes.

My day starts off as usual, heading off to the car with my bag, keys and CD's in hand. I am ready for my commute and musing. I shuffle through the radio stations to find nothing interesting so I hit the eject button on the CD player and take out the Demo to the song I am working on. Yes, I am an Artist also. I put the CD in and (((WHOOMP))) TWO WORLDS COLLAPSED INTO ONE with the speed of sound from my speakers. I could tell one world was of Old School flavor and another world was of New School fresh air. I am now sitting straight up, being addressed by a "Queen".J. not
j-a-y is the name of this refreshing Female Emcee, Producer, Singer/songwriter out of Atlanta, GA. I had the chance to speak with J and chop it up with her about the goings on in her "Queendom".

TCE: Why did you choose to spread your message in a Hip Hop style?
J: Hip hop IS THE people. Hip hop is for the people. It is a testament to the conditions that are so prevalent around us. If you come from the hood; stickin' guns in people's faces, what's your message going to be? If you are broke and you have no means of surviving; what message?
Of course I’m an African American female so it's a part of my culture. Hip hop reaches the heart, it reaches the masses.

TCE: What drives you?
J: My purpose, my passion for music and the calling that God has on my life drives me. If someone told me that I had to quit right now, I would be a wreck. Music is like the Holy Ghost for me, it just won't leave me alone. Some people; especially in the industry, sometime make you want to give up but knowing that it's greater than them or me and it is about the "message" THAT keeps driving me. Knowing that I am a female and no matter how much people smile in my face and show superficial, surface love. No one wants to see a female artist dominate the industry or let alone be a super producer.

TCE: As I listen to your songs; I get a hint of old school Hip Hop, is that what you were trying to capture or am I just hearing a breath of fresh air that the Music Industry has been missing?
J: Both. I LOVE old school hip hop and yes, I am that breath of fresh air.

TCE: Speaking of fresh air, I didn’t hear much Bling in your music.
J: I don't have much bling. LOL To me that's not reality. We are in a freakn recession right now, everyone from the billionaire to the unemployed is feeling it. Even before this financial crisis, I felt that was an extremely superficial topic and played out. Cash Money did it and did it very well.

TCE: So you write lyrics and produce your own music, do you work with others?
J: Yes but my music is like my spirit and I don't lend it to everyone. Anything with my name on it has to have lyrical integrity. A lot of times people write for females, no one ever writes for me, I'm intelligent enough to do it for myself. DECLINE... lol.. Just keep it real.

TCE: Are you signed with a Label?

J: No.I have my own label, USE OF FORCE ENTERTAINMENT LLC. I like the idea of being 'majorly independent'.

TCE: What is USE OF FORCE ENTERTAINMENT? Explain?

J: The steps law enforcement will give you are Officer Presence, Verbal Commands, Soft Hand tactics, Hard Hand tactics, and then DEADLY Force to effect an arrest. It's my indie label that all my projects will be coming out under. A 'Use Of Force' in legal terms is the force necessary and reasonable to effect an arrest.

TCE: Are you seeking a record deal, fame or do you wish to continue to independently make and distribute your music and message?

J: Of course I would love distribution and who does not want to be well liked and respected? That's human nature. My priorities are the music and the message every time. It must be authentic. I am a no non-sense person and always have been. I write the way I converse,
so I'll never bs in my music.

TCE: Are you getting radio or DJ spins right now?

J: Indie radio always shows love just as Bossladi Inc does but you know mainstream is a TOTALLY different thing. They want 'club joints'. lol

TCE: Are your songs available for purchase? Where can we get our hands on these hot tracks?

J: Sure. I'm on iTunes.

TCE: where can we see you Live? Are you on the road? What is on the horizon for J? What can we expect over the years?

J: I will be everywhere I can this summer. I'm going to do showcases, beat battles etc My ep is going to be finished in May so look for me sometime after then. I will keep everyone posted. I am doing heavy promotion for it!Only God knows, short term. I need to prove myself, get my weight up in the streets, and sell out of the trunk the old way, capture regions, the US then the world. That's what's on the horizons for J. and USE OF FORCE ENTERTAINMENT LLC!

As I make my way to the parking lot and out of the car; still singing the words to "Queen", a strong gust of wind hit me and I can see the clouds roll by. I thought to myself, "Is this the wind of change that is taking place right now in the Music and Entertainment Industry"? Tis the season to reminisce of a long time tradition
the hunt is done the logs are split and a roaring fire
cradles you from the shadowy crisp breeze
that comes around this time of year

Tis the season for many stories of a time gone
by when family and loved ones would ride for miles
or carry on this tradition in their neighborhood or hometown
remember the air was so electric with energy
smiles are on every face as the gaieties
of the anticipated celebration begin to simmer
strong men and young boys of the community hunt
for the strongest tallest perfect tree while
wives and young girls prepare things to be ready
this is exciting everyone alike travel the globe
and near to hand pick the perfect ornament for the perfect tree

Tis the season when all of the preparations are done
the community is gathered in the town square or
where ever the town’s greatest view is to work together
to hang these precious and priceless collection of
ornaments and garland that money can buy in the tallest tree
singing their merry songs all are smiles
women and children dance men brim as the ornaments
honorably hang in their screaming deafening silence

Tis the season to take pictures and make postcards
to be passed around and mailed around the world
so the past traditions will be celebrated and participated
and never never forgotten so wanting young boys
can grow to be the strong men of the community and
wives and young girls will always make preparations
for the hunt the split logs and the roaring fire
to cradle them in the shadowy crisp breeze
that comes around this time of year

Lightly sleeping

cotton tumbling on carpet is maddening

and waking up every three hours is getting old

and the lines in my eyes and face look like a road map

I sprang up when a light wind hit my face

was that a nuzzle or the sounds of waking

making me sit up at the crack of dawn

running cracking my toe on the dresser

Folgers’ didn’t wake me up

and why do they make those commercials

with families waking up to the sound of music

and birds chirping with dronelike smiles on their faces

but in my house

gale force winds toss me yet I hold on to the bed

anchoring for safety while the current of these superfluous waves

spin me into sporadic rituals

now little ones are screaming

because they are caught up in this chaotic flow

only adding more energy to this whirlwind

but neglecting self I do all I can to protect and comfort my kids

as the morning’s tropical wind subsides

not hearing a sound you lay sleeping

like a bygone prophet in the bottom of a storm tossed boat

I float in and out of time standing right in front of you
and don’t even exist. I am only here to entertain you.

It’s funny how I can check my email and I’m blasted
with a warning, DON’T BUY GAS ON THE 23RD, BOYCOTT
THIS STORE OR WEAR THIS COLOR IN PROTEST. So I run
down to the corner store on the 22nd to fill up my car
with the same gas I’m not supposed to buy the next day,
so I can make it to Work, or my next Reading, or my next Performance.

I float in and out of time standing right in front of you
and don’t even exist. I am only here to entertain you,

so you can buy my book or CD, so I can make it home
or make it to the store to buy groceries to feed my family
and buy that black, pink or whatever color outfit
which I cannot afford, that you want me to wear in protest,
at the same store you told me to boycott, to show them
the reality of who we are and the resounding buying power
that we have, so I can continue to blast emails or write and
perform a verse on how bad this vicious cycle got a good man
down and how continuing the trend of idle complaining
360 us back around to square 1, until we decide
to cause a thunderous change.

But I’m only here to entertain…You.

Staring Out A Cafe' Window

Life springs from me in the form of pure light
spilling onto those that come near being victimized by the
wellspring of goodness and mercy that follow me and pool
around the soles of my feet smudging their neatly pressed
slacks crisp socks and spit-shined shoes

They stamp their feet and swipe at their shirt - cursing franticly
brushing off the illumination as if a veering car just
splashed them with the muddy water of the gutter below
as they idly stand waiting for permission to go
their pre-pressed crisp plans interrupted

To them light stings like solvent or dye – that purple
dye that bleeds into everything slowly fading first purple
blue then that faint red, taking forever to wear off
wielding a clinched fist face etched with frustration unaware of
the dazzling brilliance they now possess as the passers-by gawk in awe

I know we are not a bunch of Chemists and Doctors and in our busy lives. It is hard to slow down and take note of every little detail. We are to busy with taking the kids to school, work, deadlines and family projects that take us way into the night, only to start over again the next waking hour.

In the middle of doing all of the weekly tasks, we slow down enough to take care of the kids and our own hygiene. So in a mad dash through the aisles,we quickly search the shelves for the best and safe bank for our buck. Do we? Lets take a look. Keep in mind the skin is the largest working organ in the body.

Mineral Oil: Petroleum by-product that coats the skin like plastic, clogging the pores. Interferes with skin's ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders. Slows down skin function and cell development, resulting in premature aging. Used in many products (baby oil is 100% mineral oil!) Any mineral oil derivative can be contaminated with cancer causing PAH's (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap. · Mineral oil · Liquidum paraffinum (also known as posh mineral oil!) · Paraffin oil · Paraffin wax · Petrolatum

Cocoamidopropyl Betaine: Cocoamidopropyl Betaine From Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS): CAN CAUSE EYE AND SKIN IRRITATION.

Talc: Scientific studies have shown that routine application of talcum powder in the genital area is associated with a three-to-fourfold increase in the development of ovarian cancer.

Lanolin: Any chemicals used on sheep will contaminate the lanolin obtained from the wool. The majority of lanolin used in cosmetics is highly contaminated with chlorinated organo pesticides like DDT.

Fragrance: Fragrance Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to four thousand separate ingredients, many toxic or carcinogenic. Symptoms reported to the USA FDA include headaches, dizziness, allergic rashes, skin discoloration, violent coughing and vomiting, and skin irritation. Clinical observation proves fragrances can affect the central nervous system, causing depression, hyperactivity, and irritability.

Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40) Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40): A very drying and irritating solvent and dehydrator that strips your skin's natural acid mantle, making us more vulnerable to bacteria, moulds and viruses. It is made from propylene, a petroleum derivative. It may promote brown spots and premature aging of skin.

1,4-dioxane 1,4-dioxane: A carcinogenic contaminant of cosmetic products. Almost 50% of cosmetics containing ethoxylated surfactants were found to contain dioxane. See Ethoxylated surfactants From Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS): 1,4-DIOXANE MAY EXERT ITS EFFECTS THROUGH INHALATION, SKIN ABSORPTION, AND INGESTION.1,4-DIOXANE IS LISTED AS A CARCINOGEN. EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE: 1,4-DIOXANE IS AN EYE AND MUCOUS MEMBRANE IRRITANT, PRIMARY SKIN IRRITANT, CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DEPRESSANT, NEPHROTOXIN, AND HEPATOTOXIN. ACUTE EXPOSURE CAUSES IRRITATION, HEADACHE, DIZZINESS, AND NARCOSIS. CHRONIC INHALATION EXPOSURE CAN PRODUCE DAMAGE TO THE LIVER AND KIDNEYS, AND BLOOD DISORDERS. MEDICAL CONDITION AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE PRECLUDE FROM EXPOSURE THOSE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISEASE OF THE BLOOD, LIVER KIDNEYS, CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, AND THOSE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DERMATITIS.

This is just a short list of things found in everyday products that some of us have been using for years.

The purpose of this series in not to cause wide spread panic but to educate and enlighten the public on what whe are putting in and on or loved ones and our own bodies. Let's take the time out to read the lables and make wise purchase decisions.

Just because the package reads, All Natural, For Sisetive Skin, etc on the outside, does not mean that other harmfull ingredients arn not present. Turn the package over and read the listing.

Expersts suggest that the shorter the list is better and we should be able to recognise the words that are printed on the back lable. Ex. Coco Butter, Aloe Vera etc.

Auburn Loved "Doc's" Langston

"Doc" Waller recited and read some of the most provoking and funny life stories and poems of Langston Hughes to a standing room only crowd at the well known; Cultural Hub, The Gnu's Room.

Tina Tatum opened the show with a beautiful introduction of "Doc", which later said that, "This was his first time ever to be introduced and it made me smile from ear to ear".

Even though the audience was given the whole seat to enjoy, they could not help but need the edge as Waller weaved in and out of Langston's Poetry.

Waller also read poems from his new book, Poems That Drive.
